A Phd position (or M2 internship followed by PhD) is available to work under the supervision
of Laura Cantini in Denis Thieffry’s group at the Institute of Biology of the Ecole Normale
The candidate will develop and compare computational methods for the integrative analysis of
single-cell sequencing of different modalities (scRNA-seq and scATAC-seq). These methods
will be applied to real patient-derived data to generate novel insights into disease mechanisms
and therapy outcomes, and thereby contribute to personalized preventive care and therapy
selection. The project will be performed in close collaboration with Gabriel Peyré (DMA, ENS)
and Jean-Philippe Vert (Google AI Paris).
Applicants should have a Master degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or
Physics, a background in machine learning and/or statistics and good programming skills
(Python). Students interested in an M2 internship followed by a PhD will be also considered.
Previous internship experience with next-generation sequencing data analysis and/or singlecell
data analysis would be a plus.
The researcher will be based at the Institute of Biology of the Ecole Normale Supérieure
(IBENS). IBENS is a multidisciplinary research center in Biology with over 300 staff members
working 30 research teams, conveniently located in the Latin Quarter in downtown Paris.
IENS researchers cover a wide range of disciplines, including evolutionary biology, ecology,
computational biology, genetics, and comparative genomics.
Review of applications begins immediately and it continues until 10th of March. The PhD
position would be for 3 years and the candidate would be registered to the PhD School
«Complexity of Life» enrolled at ENS.
To apply, please submit: i) a cover letter summarizing research interests and expertise ii) a
Curriculum Vitae (including publications if any), and iii) the names and contact information
for at least two references. Questions and application should be sent to Laura Cantini
( email@example.com ).
